What can the long-term study of viruses reveal about the aftermath of viral infections?
In this SciCafe, Dr. W. Ian Lipkin, director of the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and the Director for the NIAID Center for Solutions for ME/CFS, will discuss how research into the long-term effects of exposure to viruses can lead to discoveries about, and treatments for, chronic conditions sparked by an initial infection. As we begin to understand the potential effects of long COVID, learning about how other viruses behave over time may provide some insight into this particular virus’s future.
