During the eight-week residency, Breakthrough Teaching Fellows receive over 100 hours of teaching and leadership training and 75 hours of lead classroom experience.

Fellowship

The Breakthrough Teaching Fellow experience is designed for undergraduates of all majors, those who intend to pursue careers in education, and those who haven’t yet considered it.  The opportunity is unlike any other available to undergraduates, and the experience transforms our alumni. Education coursework is not a prerequisite.

We seek applicants with a deep interest in social justice and a passion for working with students. Our Teaching Fellows must be committed to personal growth and comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Because we celebrate the diversity of our community, we seek undergraduate applicants from diverse backgrounds and life experiences.

During the eight-week residency, Breakthrough Teaching Fellows receive over 100 hours of teaching and leadership training and 75 hours of lead classroom experience. Teaching Fellows have the opportunity to practice skills that prepare them for the classroom or other professional settings.

We will require all teaching fellows to sign up as an Americorp member. If selected, fellows must sign up as an Americorp member and complete all necessary steps on time. Failure to complete registration as an Americorp member will lead to a removal from the fellowship.

Fellows who complete 300 hours of service time will receive an education award valued at $1,460 that can be applied towards payment of educational opportunities

If you are selected, you will fill out an additional application on the Americorp platform at a later date. Filling out this application is mandatory for candidates to be a teaching fellow with us this summer.
