About the Opportunity: The NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) builds many of the civic facilities New Yorkers use every day. DDC’s 2026 Summer Internship Program is offering a temporary, full-time opportunity for students to gain valuable experience in the architecture, engineering, design, safety, and construction management professions within a public service context. The Borough-Based Jails Program specifically seeks a college intern to assist their staff of architects and engineers.
Responsibilities & Program Details:
Provide basic office and field administrative support for the program's architects and engineers.
Gain hands-on technical experience through specific field assignments and office work.
Build a mentoring relationship with senior-level technical staff.
Learn about upgrading and constructing public infrastructure through a combination of seminars, site visits, and on-the-job training.
Work full-time (35 hours per week) for the duration of the program.
Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates pursuing an undergraduate degree in architecture, engineering, urban planning, or a related field.
Authorization to work in the United States is required (NYC DDC does not provide sponsorship for international employees).
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
Compensation & Location:
Salary: $16.50 – $17.00 per hour
