Internship

The NYC Summer Internship Program (SIP) is designed to provide graduate and undergraduate students with valuable experience working for the New York City government. Agencies will have the opportunity to hire interns to serve in various roles in the Summer Graduate Intern (for graduate students) or Summer College Intern (for undergraduate students) civil service titles, for a maximum duration of 13 weeks.

In addition to gaining hands-on experience working for the City of New York, SIP interns are also offered opportunities for professional development, training, and guidance on civil service employment. Interns will also have the opportunity to join our growing alumni network. In 2024, over 260 graduate interns and over 600 college interns were placed in internships across 35 different City agencies, providing a wide range of learning experiences.

Candidate Eligibility

Graduate interns must be enrolled in a graduate or law degree program. Undergraduate interns in SIP must be currently enrolled in a college or university or have graduated within one (1) year of the current program year. Unless otherwise specified, internships are open to both graduate and undergraduate applicants

Application Process

Candidates interested in internship positions must submit their resume and cover letter directly to the respective agency, following the instructions in the job posting. Each agency is responsible for coordinating interviews and managing the onboarding process for new hires.
