The Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP):

Scientists receive training in STEM curriculum and youth development and work alongside site staff to co-implement engaging, hands-on activities over the course of a semester.

The Afterschool STEM Mentoring Program (ASMP) is currently recruiting undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and STEM professionals to mentor elementary and middle school students with the goal of inspiring a lifelong interest in STEM. In partnership with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), mentors are placed at one of our many partnering school sites around New York City and commit to teaching one-hour sessions each week, over 10 weeks.

Participating Mentors receive training in STEM curriculum and youth development, and work with a site staff partner to implement weekly one-hour sessions from  October through January 2027 (Fall semester - 10 sessions total).
For more information about this program, please visit: https://www.nyas.org/asmp

ASMP Mentors gain:

  • Mentoring and teaching experience
  • Opportunities to network and participate in professional development events
  • A stronger connection to their community
  • One-year complimentary membership to NYAS
  • $500 stipend upon successful completion of 10 sessions, plus up to $150 in travel reimbursement
