The Simons Electron Microscopy Center at the New York Structural Biology Center is seeking to hire a laboratory technician to add to its expanding group. We are looking for a bright and enthusiastic individual to help out with various tasks to keep the lab running and operate scientific instrumentation. Most important requirements are a good attitude, ability to learn, able to work independently, early riser and willingness to do what needs to be done. Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment where priorities may change often and quickly and be able to work well with others. Previous electron microscope experience is not required, but is a plus.

Responsibilities include:

Assist users with operating scientific instrumentation at the facility,

Upkeep of the cryoEM sample preparation laboratory,

Room temperature and cryo sample preparation for electron microscopy,

Operation of screening transmission electron microscopes, and

Administration, scheduling and email communications to users of the facility.

Required qualifications:

a science degree (Associate degree or above),

awareness of structural biology and related fields

familiar working in a laboratory environment

comfortable around scientific instrumentation

basic computer skills (comfortable with Linux environment and web interfaces)
